Survivor Stories

At The Rescue House, every animal has a story. From the moment of rescue to rehabilitation and release, these incredible survivors have been given a second chance at life. Their journeys inspire hope and remind us all why protecting wildlife matters.

Axil’s Journey from Struggle to Strength

Axil the fawn arrived from a local ranch with contracted tendons in his front legs, causing him to walk on his elbows. A rehabilitation plan, including splints, extensive physical therapy, and quad wheels provided by the kind folks at Joey’s PAWS, transformed his mobility. Now, with his legs straightened to 170 degrees, Axil is able to run and play as nature intended. His recovery is a testament to dedicated care and innovative solutions.

Alexa’s Remarkable Recovery Against the Odds

Alexa the fawn arrived on her second day of life after a donkey stomped on her, resulting in a complete fracture of her left front leg. The injury was complicated by contracted tendons, which prevented proper alignment of the broken bones. With limited funds for orthopedic surgery, our team focused on daily wound care, infection prevention, and splinting her leg for five weeks. Alexa patiently endured weekly bandage changes, proving to be a resilient little fighter. On Day 37, we removed her splint and held our breath as she placed her hoof on the ground, defying her poor prognosis and veterinary expectations.

From Orphaned to Wild and Free

Riley the raccoon was a singieton found at a construction site; her umbilical cord still attached. Severely dehydrated and malnourished upon arrival, she was placed on a neonate protocol and quarantined for four weeks to ensure she was disease-free. Riley, affectionately called “Little Riley,” was a voracious eater, loudly reminding us when it was feeding time. After receiving her second booster vaccine, she was released in a habitat with year-round flowing water, where she could thrive and, hopefully, raise beautiful offspring resembling her.
